Keep your finger on the Pulse!
GOOD MORNING
I apologize for a somewhat abbreviated newsletter this morning. I got locked out of my main computer on Saturday so had to turn it into my local computer tech to fix. Don’t know the problem yet.
All my “tools” are on that computer even though I still use much from the cloud. I appreciate your understanding until my work horse gets fixed. For now I have to work on a friend’s computer, ugh!

H Mart Eyes Tampa: Popular Korean Supermarket Files Building Permits

H Mart, the popular Korean-American supermarket chain with nearly 100 locations across the U.S., has filed permits to build a new store at 3908 W Hillsborough Ave., Tampa, about 1.5 miles north of Raymond James Stadium.
City of Tampa documents reveal that the project is currently in the review phase, including a proposed demolition plan. If completed, this would become Florida’s second H Mart, following a long-anticipated Orlando location.
Beloved for its expansive selection of Asian produce, snacks, kimchi, and grab-and-go banchan, H Mart is also known for its food court and deli offerings.
However, competition is close: Kim Brother’s Oriental Grocery Store is located directly across the street, and other markets like Oceanic Market and Bom Oriental Market are nearby.
For fans, patience may be key—Orlando’s H Mart took four years from announcement to opening.
Florida’s 10 Safest Cities Ranked: See Who
Made the List

Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park will pulse with music and culture this weekend as the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Music Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Marco Island has been named Florida’s safest city for the second consecutive year, according to SafeWise’s 11th annual Safest Cities report. Using FBI crime statistics, the report ranked 33 Florida towns based on crime rates.
Joining Marco Island in the Top 5 were Safety Harbor, Wildwood, Dunedin, and Pensacola. Notably, Marco Island, Safety Harbor, Wildwood, and Dunedin all reported zero murders.
While attitudes around gun violence remain a concern—66% of residents reported daily worry—actual experiences dropped, with only 9% reporting gun violence in the previous eight months, down from 17% the year before.
Florida recorded 32 mass shooting incidents in 2024, the third-highest in the nation. Firearms remain the most common personal safety device among Floridians.
SafeWise’s findings are based on FBI 2023 crime data, released in October 2024.

100 Pounds Lighter, Grandmother Ready
for First Triathlon

Gina Anderson of St. Petersburg is preparing to compete in her first-ever triathlon—the 42nd annual St. Anthony’s Triathlon—after a transformative 100-pound weight loss.
Anderson began her fitness journey in 2023, motivated by her five grandchildren and concerns about family health history. Previously a race spectator, she now swims, bikes, and runs alongside her husband and son-in-law.
St. Anthony’s Triathlon, one of the largest Olympic-distance triathlons in the U.S., is known for attracting “weekend warriors” and is celebrating its 42nd anniversary this year.
Operated by a not-for-profit, all proceeds benefit BayCare’s St. Anthony’s Hospital health programs. Anderson hopes her participation inspires others and keeps her active for the ultimate challenge—chasing after toddlers.

FWC: Captain in Boat Rage Incident Operated Illegally, Threatened Angler

Another proud Floriduh moment
Brock Horner, the charter captain involved in a viral "boat rage" incident in Punta Gorda, is now facing additional charges filed by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
The FWC filed two misdemeanors—harassment of hunters/fishers and misusing a recreational vessel commercially—plus three infractions, including careless vessel operation, lacking a saltwater charter license, and improper registration display.
The charges stem from an incident where Horner boarded 22-year-old Gage Towles’ boat without permission, threatening him in a confrontation captured on video. The footage shows Horner aggressively confronting Towles and forcing an apology.
Punta Gorda Police previously arrested Horner, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated. The case is now with the State Attorney’s Office as officials move forward with prosecution.
