Where Timber Transforms: Tampa’s Hidden Woodworking Gem

At the Florida School of Woodwork in Tampa, raw materials are transformed into handcrafted masterpieces through immersive, hands-on learning. Open to adults of all skill levels, the school offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes focused on fine woodworking techniques—from basic joinery to intricate inlays.

Director Kat Swann emphasizes that woodworking is more than just a craft: “It engages your brain, hands, and heart,” she explains. For many, including Swann herself, it's a meditative and deeply personal journey. Her own path began in Portland, Oregon, restoring a dilapidated wooden home and discovering a passion she now shares in Tampa Bay.

With a workshop filled with professional-grade power tools, students progress through carefully designed projects that grow in complexity. The school promotes not only creative expression but also a return to the tactile satisfaction of working with wood.

SharkCon 2025 Brings Hollywood and Hammerheads to Tampa

SharkCon 2025 is making waves in Tampa as it returns to the Florida State Fairgrounds on July 12–13 for its 11th annual celebration of all things shark. This immersive, two-day event brings together marine scientists, conservationists, photographers, and fans to explore the wonders of the ocean’s most iconic predators.

Richard Dreyfuss, star of Jaws, will headline the event in honor of the film’s 50th anniversary, adding Hollywood excitement to a science-filled weekend. Attendees can enjoy live dissections, scuba diving experiences, mermaid encounters, and hands-on exhibits from organizations like National Geographic, Mote Marine Laboratory, and Florida Fish and Wildlife.

Families will find plenty to love, including a 27-foot shark slide, shark tooth dig, and a treasure hunt for kids. The event also promotes marine conservation and interactive learning through exhibits and touch tanks.

Tickets are available now online—and SharkCon promises to be a fintastic experience for all ages.

Tampa’s Cairo Cravings Serves Up Egyptian Tradition with a Modern Twist

Cairo Cravings has officially brought Tampa its first authentic Egyptian restaurant, located at The Grand on E Fowler Avenue. The eatery offers a deep dive into generational Egyptian recipes, from stuffed pigeon and koshary to molokhia and shawarma wraps.

Signature dishes include feteer (a layered flaky pie), rice moammar, and Egyptian soujouk. The stuffed pigeon, a rare find in the U.S., is available by pre-order 48 hours in advance. For dessert, guests can enjoy basbousa and fresh-made Turkish coffee.

A highlight of the dining experience is the daily Iftar buffet, featuring a rotation of hearty, vegetable- and grain-based dishes. Staples like aish baladi (Egypt’s beloved pita-like bread) pair well with ta’ameya, kofta, and mashed fava beans.

With its bold flavors and cultural authenticity, Cairo Cravings delivers a culinary journey through Egypt, inviting diners to savor centuries of tradition—right in the heart of Tampa.

Unusual Restaurants?

There’s a restaurant in Japan called "Nyotaimori" that serves sushi on a human body—also known as "body sushi"—but contrary to popular myth, true nyotaimori requires models to remain completely still for hours, and the sushi is placed on sanitized bamboo leaves, never directly on the skin.

Even rarer is the strict etiquette involved: diners are not allowed to talk to or touch the model, and photography is often forbidden. The practice has historical and ritualistic roots tied more to performance art and presentation than to sensuality, and only a few elite venues around the world still perform it according to tradition.

Bucs Could Cut $52M Cornerback After NFL Draft Shakeup

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could soon part ways with veteran cornerback Jamel Dean, despite his $52 million contract. Dean, a starter since 2019, has been flagged as a potential cut or trade candidate by Pro Football Network following the Bucs’ selection of two cornerbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Benjamin Morrison, a projected first-rounder who slipped due to injury, and Jacob Parrish, a slot corner, both bring fresh competition to Tampa’s secondary. While Parrish may not challenge Dean directly, Morrison is expected to compete for a starting perimeter role—possibly at Dean’s expense.

Dean’s injury history, including missing games every season and playing just 12 games in 2024, may have influenced the Bucs’ draft decisions. Cutting him post-June 1 could save the team $12.9 million in cap space.

For now, Dean remains on the roster but will need to prove his value in training camp amid younger, healthier challengers.
