“Wrong Way In”: Wesley Chapel Neighbors Challenge Townhome Access Plan

Wesley Chapel residents are pushing back against plans that would route traffic from a new 186-unit townhome development through Abby Brooks Circle, a quiet residential street. At a Pasco County Commission meeting on May 6, dozens of concerned homeowners voiced opposition, citing safety risks, excessive traffic, and infrastructure strain. The road was never intended to serve as the sole entrance and exit for a high-density complex.

Despite the plan's administrative approval—which limits the commission's authority—officials are now exploring alternatives. Commissioner Seth Weightman hinted at potential changes, including a new access point on Elam Road, the street originally intended to serve the development.

Residents argue the townhomes belong to a different Community Development District, raising concerns about unfair burden and cost. While county staff investigates legal and engineering solutions, residents remain firm: “This isn’t about stopping development—it’s about protecting our kids and our way of life.

Clocked at 125+: FHP Nabs I-4 Street Racers
at Sunrise

Two drivers were arrested early Sunday morning after racing at speeds exceeding 125 MPH on Interstate 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The incident unfolded around dawn when a Tampa Police Aviation Unit spotted the vehicles speeding eastbound on I-4 and alerted nearby law enforcement. Trooper Medina and Sergeant Moore quickly located the vehicles and confirmed they were traveling at approximately 100 MPH before initiating what FHP described as a "roll race" — a form of high-speed competition that starts while cars are already in motion.

Both drivers were apprehended and are facing charges related to illegal street racing and reckless driving. Authorities emphasized the danger such behavior poses to public safety, especially during early morning hours when visibility is low and traffic patterns are unpredictable.

FHP credits the interagency coordination with preventing potential harm to other motorists and successfully bringing the situation under control.

Here’s an astonishing but lesser-known fact about street racing:

Some street racers use encrypted messaging apps and GPS jammers to evade police surveillance in real time.

While most people picture street racing as spontaneous or chaotic, in many cities it’s actually highly coordinated. Organizers use encrypted group chats (like Telegram or Signal) to plan races on the fly, sharing live updates about police movements or traffic. More advanced racers even use GPS jammers to prevent law enforcement helicopters or traffic cams from tracking their vehicles during the race.

This level of tech-savvy planning turns what seems like reckless driving into a high-risk, semi-organized event, making it significantly harder for authorities to shut them down.

Bucs Breakdown: 5 Games That Will Define
Tampa Bay’s 2025 Season

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 2025 schedule is packed with challenges, but five key games could define their season.

They open on the road Week 1 vs. the Atlanta Falcons, seeking revenge for last year’s overtime loss. A Week 15 rematch in Tampa could decide the NFC South title.

Week 2 at Houston (MNF) brings Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans back to Texas, aiming for a national statement win against a surging Texans team.

Week 4 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles offers another chance to prove dominance, with Tampa having beaten the Eagles twice over the last two years.

In Week 7, they travel to face the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, a tough playoff-caliber opponent they've beaten recently.

Winning these matchups would give Tampa Bay a clear playoff path, helping them solidify their NFC standing and potentially secure the division before the season finale.
