Bachelor’s Still Pays: Tampa’s Top-Earning Careers With a Degree

Despite rising tuition and growing skepticism around the value of higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in Tampa can still lead to lucrative careers.
According to a recent Stacker report, the highest-paying job for degree-holders in the metro area is airline pilot, with a median salary of $226,130. Other six-figure roles include engineering managers, IT directors, financial managers, and software developers, all earning well over $100,000 annually.
The study highlights that while only 1 in 4 adults now view college as essential for a high-paying job, data shows lifetime earnings for graduates can outpace those with just a high school diploma by $630,000 to $900,000.
In Tampa, project management specialists, civil engineers, and data scientists are also in strong demand — evidence that a degree can still deliver significant ROI, especially in STEM and leadership roles.
Tampa River Center Hosts Free Rowing Lessons
for All Ages June 7

The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation, in partnership with CANDO’s Team Tampa Rowing and Tampa Athletic Club, will host National Learn to Row Day at the Tampa River Center on Saturday, June 7. This free event introduces participants aged 10 and up to the fundamentals of rowing in a fun, inclusive environment.
Four sessions will be offered between 7:00 A.M. and noon, with room for 120 total participants. Pre-registration is required at tampa.gov/row25, and early sign-up is encouraged due to limited space.
“This is a great way to explore a growing sport,” said Michael Moseley, program supervisor. Attendees will also meet Team Tampa Rowing members, who recently claimed the club’s first state title and qualified for nationals.
Rowing camps for grades 5–12 are ongoing this summer. More info at TeamTampaRowing.com.

Rays Embrace Heat, Turn Steinbrenner Into
Surprise Fortress

After a rocky start at Steinbrenner Field, the Tampa Bay Rays are flipping the narrative.
Initially plagued by poor playing conditions and losing 14 of 19 home games, the Rays have now won 9 of their last 12 and four straight home series. What changed?
Warmer weather, improved offensive performance, and a psychological edge over visiting teams unaccustomed to Tampa’s stifling heat and humidity.
Opponents, like the Twins’ Joe Ryan and Blue Jays’ John Schneider, have criticized the sun glare, unpredictable winds, and minor-league amenities. But for the Rays, it’s become a strategic edge. Players and coaches say they’ve acclimated, while also shifting strategies — aiming for quick innings and long offensive frames to exhaust visitors.
Manager Kevin Cash and others now see Steinbrenner as a legitimate, if unconventional, home-field advantage born out of adversity following Hurricane Milton’s damage to Tropicana Field.
Caminero Crushes His Way to AL Co-Player of the Week Honors

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero was named American League Co-Player of the Week after a breakout performance, sharing the honor with Seattle's Cal Raleigh. Caminero, just 21 years old, hit .379 with four home runs, 13 RBIs, four doubles, and eight runs over seven games, posting a 1.331 OPS. His biggest moments came against Houston, where he drove in six runs Thursday and five more on Saturday.
It’s the first weekly MLB award of Caminero’s career and the first by a Rays player since 2022, when Isaac Paredes won it — the same man Caminero replaced. He also became just the third player in Rays history with 11+ RBIs over a three-game span.
Caminero’s six extra-base hits against the Astros were the most in a series since Evan Longoria in 2013.
The Rays (30-29) host the Rangers Tuesday night at Steinbrenner Field.
