Land O' Lakes Adds Traffic Light for School Safety, Easier Access

A new traffic signal and intersection opened May 21 at U.S. 41 and Sunterra Drive in northern Land O’ Lakes, responding to safety concerns from the Pasco County School District. The light improves access to Dayspring Angeline Academy, a K-5 school at 9371 Land O’ Lakes Blvd., and its affiliated Angeline Academy of Innovation athletics complex, which features Pasco’s first all-turf field opening August and a stadium debuting in November.

The change reverses earlier plans to restrict turns at Sunterra, which led to alternate roadways through Tierra Del Sol, Asbel Creek and Estates, plus a light at nearby Asbel Road. Persistent congestion and confusion prompted FDOT and county officials to approve the new light—just under two miles from the last one—to streamline traffic and improve safety for nearby residents and facilities like Fire Rescue Station No. 22 and the Pasco jail.

Cost details were not disclosed.

‘Something Rotten!’ Brings Musical Mayhem to
The Straz

Get ready to laugh! The Tony Award-winning musical “Something Rotten!” is coming to Ferguson Hall at the Straz Center, with three performances June 27–28. Presented by the Patel Conservatory Theater, the show offers a satirical and side-splitting tribute to the very idea of musicals.

Set in 1590s England, the story follows playwright brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom as they compete with a rockstar-like William Shakespeare. Desperate to stand out, they invent a wild idea: write the world’s first musical. What unfolds is a riot of songs, dance, and Renaissance absurdity.

A clever, crowd-pleasing homage to Broadway and the creative spirit, Something Rotten! is ideal for theater lovers and newcomers alike. Expect big laughs, toe-tapping tunes, and Elizabethan flair with modern zing.

Kucherov Wins Ted Lindsay Award, Again

Lightning star Nikita Kucherov has been named the NHL’s top player by his peers, winning the prestigious Ted Lindsay Award for the second time. Known as the “players’ MVP,” the award is the only NHL honor voted on solely by members of the NHL Players’ Association.

Kucherov earned the accolade after leading the league with 121 points, including an NHL-best 84 assists, and topping several other stats categories — all while playing through a left hand injury since February. He joins Connor McDavid and Jaromir Jagr as the only players in recent decades to win back-to-back scoring titles.

This is Kucherov’s second Lindsay win, his first since 2019. Only Marty St. Louis had won the honor for the Lightning before.

The team surprised Kucherov with the news during training, with teammates and staff presenting the trophy at TGH Ice Plex in Brandon.
