Silver Airways Shuts Down All Operations, Cancels All Flights Immediately

Silver Airways has abruptly ceased all flight operations, effective Wednesday, June 11, after months of financial struggle. The Florida-based airline—headquartered in Hollywood with a hub in Tampa—issued an early morning statement informing passengers that all upcoming flights are canceled and urging them not to go to the airport.

This move follows the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in December 2024. Despite initially pledging to maintain normal operations, disruptions began in early March with unannounced cancellations.

Founded in 2011, the regional carrier once connected Florida cities like Tampa, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Key West, as well as destinations across the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

In its final message, Silver Airways said it had entered a sale agreement with another airline holding company, which ultimately chose not to continue operations. Passengers who purchased tickets are advised to seek refunds through their credit card providers or travel agents.

Wesley Chapel Bakery Rises to Meet Allergy Needs

Purely Park Sourdough, a family-run bakery in Wesley Chapel, is reshaping the bread scene in Tampa Bay by catering to people with severe food allergies. Owners Kimberly and Justin Park were inspired to start the business after welcoming twin girls in 2022—one of whom was born with allergies to wheat, peanuts, and tree nuts.

“We wanted bread that was safe for our daughter and still delicious,” said Kimberly. The result? A line of locally sourced, allergy-conscious sourdough loaves and baked goods.

The bakery’s offerings range from savory loaves like asiago cheddar and cheddar jalapeño, to sweet treats like lemon blueberry scones and sourdough cookies—all made without common allergens.

You can find Purely Park at local Tampa Bay markets or pre-order online through their website.

“We bake what we feel good feeding our own family,” Kimberly shared, hoping to serve others who face similar dietary challenges.

Here’s an astonishing and not commonly known fact about food allergies:

People can suddenly develop life-threatening food allergies as adults—even to foods they've eaten safely for years.

This phenomenon is known as adult-onset food allergy, and it’s far more common than most realize. For example, shellfish is one of the top triggers for adult-onset reactions, often appearing out of nowhere in people over 30. Even more surprising, exercise or alcohol can sometimes “activate” an allergy—meaning you might tolerate a food normally, but develop an allergic reaction when you eat it after working out or drinking.

Another startling detail: tick bites have been linked to the development of red meat allergies in adults. The Lone Star tick, found in the U.S. South and Midwest, can cause people to develop an allergy to a sugar molecule (alpha-gal) in red meat—resulting in delayed, severe allergic reactions hours after eating beef, pork, or lamb.

Orem Family Urges Caution After YouTube Challenge Ends in Injury

An 8-year-old boy from Orem, Utah, suffered third-degree burns after attempting a dangerous toy trend seen on YouTube Shorts. Parker Tenney was severely injured on May 18 after placing a popular stress toy, a NeeDoh ball, in the microwave, following a viral claim that it would make the toy “extra squishy.”

“The gel from inside exploded on [Parker], with no shirt,” said his mother, Cathy Tenney, recalling the terrifying moment. Parker was rushed to the University of Utah Burn Center, where he underwent two skin graft surgeries and spent 18 days in recovery.

Now home wearing a protective vest, Parker faces a healing process that could take up to two years. His parents are urging others to stay alert to online trends and check what their children are watching. The manufacturer of NeeDoh balls explicitly warns against microwaving the product.

“Almost everybody has a NeeDoh ball,” Parker’s father warned. “We just want parents to be careful.”

Back with the Bolts: Gourde Signs Long-Term Deal

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Yanni Gourde to a six-year contract worth an average annual value of $2.33 million, reuniting with the fan favorite who helped deliver back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.

Gourde, 33, was re-acquired in a three-team trade from Seattle via Detroit in March 2025. Since returning, he’s made a strong impact—recording 13 assists and 14 points in just 21 games with the Bolts and ranking third on the team in assists and second in hits (50).

A two-time Cup champion and undrafted NHL success story, Gourde has now skated in 602 NHL games, tallying 133 goals and 347 points. In playoff competition, he’s added 43 points in 88 games.

Lightning GM Julien BriseBois praised Gourde’s “two-way grit,” noting his playoff leadership and clutch performances. Tampa Bay fans can now look forward to six more seasons with one of their most dependable and dynamic forwards.
