Evacuation Effort Continues: Tampa Welcomes Americans from Israel

A rescue flight from Israel has landed at Tampa International Airport, marking the continuation of a humanitarian evacuation effort for Jewish‑Americans fleeing the recent conflict.

The flight—touching down shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday—follows earlier legs by cruise ship and naval escort. Gray Bull Rescue Group reports about 300 evacuees have been relocated so far.

After disembarking in Cyprus, Florida coordinated flights to bring evacuees home. Upon arrival in Tampa, individuals cleared U.S. customs and will be booked on connecting flights to their home states via the Florida Department of Emergency Management.

The effort is part of a larger plan encompassing four flights, with the first having departed two days earlier. According to officials, Florida will continue assisting those seeking evacuation from Israel. The operation underscores a rapid international rescue mission involving cruise, naval, and air transport, with Florida playing a central logistics role.

Yelp Names Hole In One Among U.S. Top 50
Donut Shops

Hole In One Donuts, a staple in Hillsborough County, is earning national recognition. Its Tampa shop was recently named one of Yelp’s Top 50 Donut Shops in America, landing at No. 41 on the list.

The honor comes thanks to glowing reviews from customers. One fan raved that the maple-glazed and strawberry cake donuts were “out of this world,” while others praised the shop’s offerings as “some of the freshest” they’ve ever had. Popular picks include the Boston cream, sour cream glazed, and the shop’s beloved oversized apple fritters.

Though the spotlight is on the Tampa location, Hole In One Donuts also operates in Tarpon Springs, Seffner, Plant City, and Brandon. Each location offers the same fresh-baked charm and crowd-pleasing menu.

With its newfound acclaim, now’s the perfect time to grab a box—or two—and see what the hype is about.

From 8 Down to W: Rays Stun Orioles in
MLB's Biggest Comeback

The Tampa Bay Rays pulled off the largest comeback in MLB this season, rallying from an eight-run deficit to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 12-8 on Wednesday night. The win matches the franchise’s all-time comeback record, previously set in 2012 and 2009.

Baltimore jumped ahead with an explosive eight-run second inning, but the Rays chipped away. Brandon Lowe’s two-run homer tied the game in the fifth, and Jonathan Aranda’s two-run single in the seventh sealed the rally. Junior Caminero starred with four hits and two RBIs, while Lowe extended his hit-and-run streak to seven games, batting .464 over that stretch.

Entering Wednesday, MLB teams were 0-134 when trailing by eight or more runs this season. The Rays' victory also ties the Orioles' largest blown lead in the past 50 years.

Zalupski, Babby, Cosgrove Headline Rays Sale Talks

The Tampa Bay Rays are in talks to sell the franchise to a group led by Jacksonville billionaire Patrick Zalupski, CEO of Dream Finders Homes. Zalupski is a University of Florida trustee and has several real estate projects underway in the Tampa Bay region.

Joining him in the investment group are Bill Cosgrove, CEO of Union Home Mortgage, and Ken Babby, owner of two minor league baseball teams—the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and the Akron Rubber Ducks. Babby is known for funding stadium upgrades and revitalizing minor league franchises.

The potential sale, valued at around $1.7 billion, remains in the discussion phase with a non-binding letter of intent already signed. Current owner Stuart Sternberg purchased the team in 2004 for $200 million.

Amid stadium uncertainty and the team’s temporary move to George M. Steinbrenner Field after storm damage at Tropicana Field, questions loom. Still, the expectation is that the Rays will remain in Tampa Bay under any future ownership.
