Juvenile Hospitalized After Near-Drowning in Wesley Chapel

A juvenile was hospitalized after a near-drowning incident in Wesley Chapel’s Blackhill Street area on Monday evening. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:45 p.m., with first responders immediately working to save the child’s life. The juvenile was transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

According to deputies, preliminary information suggests the incident was accidental, and no foul play is suspected. The child’s age and the circumstances leading up to the near-drowning have not yet been released, as the investigation remains ongoing.

This developing situation underscores the importance of water safety, particularly during the summer months when families and children frequent pools and water bodies.

Lifeguards Urge Quick Action as Lightning
Threatens Coast

As summer storms roll in, lifeguards and meteorologists are urging beachgoers to take lightning threats seriously.

At Clearwater Beach, lifeguards close the water and issue warnings at the first sign of storm activity. Staying on the beach—even under cabanas or piers—is not safe, warns Patrick Brafford, Clearwater Beach Lifeguard Manager. The safest options: seek shelter in a nearby building or your car.

With Florida's recent lightning injuries fresh in mind, lifeguards encourage visitors to designate a “weather watcher” and stay updated on forecasts. Lightning can strike up to 15 miles away, even when skies still look clear.

ABC meteorologist Ally Blake and local families echo the same advice: pack up early if clouds begin to darken. It’s a simple precaution that could be life-saving.

Nikita Kucherov Named NHL’s Most Outstanding Player—Again

Tampa Bay Lightning star Nikita Kucherov has been named the 2024-25 Ted Lindsay Award recipient, marking the second time NHL players have voted him as the league’s “most outstanding player.”

The honor is especially prestigious as it’s the only NHL award determined by fellow players. Kucherov previously won the award in 2018-19 and was a finalist last season.

In 2024-25, Kucherov led the NHL with 121 points (37 goals, 84 assists) in 78 games, claiming his third Art Ross Trophy. His league-leading 84 assists made him just the fourth player in NHL history with three straight 80-assist seasons. He also topped the league in points per game (1.55), primary assists (56), and power-play points (46).

Lightning teammates presented the award to Kucherov in Tampa, highlighting his elite consistency and leadership.
